to Anonimity You want to become invisible online?
Become untraceable online? Or better yet improve your online privacy? In this guide, I'm going to give a thorough workable guide on how you can achieve this.
I'll break these steps down into three categories so you know where you want to place yourself, and we'll call it: Anonymity Level 1 Anonymity Level 2
Anonymity Level 1 and 2 is pretty much fine for most people, but still I'll allow you to choose which one you think suits you. Let's get started; How to become invisible online with anonymity level 1.
Yes, this level of anonymity is very easy to implement, but it won't help you become completely invisible, but I think it's okay. You don't need to be completely invisible online as a normal person, but those who want to achieve a higher level of online anonymity are people who are being tracked or traced by a government agency. I like to actively seek them out, but I'll be sure to explain how to get deeper into that anonymity on other levels. But if you just want to hide, it's actually pretty easy, because online hiding is essentially leaving as few traces as possible and spreading those traces as far apart as possible.
This makes it really difficult to really figure out who you are or where you are. There's also this common fallacy that people think Google and Facebook and big companies make when it comes to tracking us. Well, the good news is, "They can only track what you allow them to track" , they are not a god tracking robot ,
I hope you understand that.
The information you volunteer to them is; Store your photos on Google Photos. Create social media profiles with your name and add your close friends on Facebook. Bookmark websites on Chrome, give Chrome location permission at any time. Not checking what and what history your Google account stores. If you keep the Facebook app on your phone that allows it to track your offsite activity, Facebook can track other apps you use on your phone, even newly downloaded apps.
Do not remove Exif data from images before sharing them online. Enable your location access on Twitter. Give your home address to online stores and delivery people and more. So now you can see that you have given your information to them for free and mostly. You can also quickly click the "Accept" buttons without reading the privacy policy or the detailed cookie notice.
But it's okay if we never knew that they can't track us. So the first step to becoming invisible online is to not give them free access to your personal data, to stop giving them things they will use to track you What do we do now to achieve at least anonymity level 1: 1. reduce the amount of personal data for the websites you visit 2. create multiple emails for multiple purposes 3. use strong passwords 4. use browsers or extensions that allow you to block tracking scripts and ads 1.Reduce personal data shared with websites you visit: Don't share personal data with everyone. If you want to buy something online, it may be okay to provide your actual information, but you don't really need to enter the exact data.
For example, in the shipping address, enter your local mailing address or your logistics warehouse address. Stop giving them your home address, your items will then be shipped to the logistics warehouse or your local mailing address. This way the company you are buying from does not have your home address.
Also, remember that anything you enter into shipping addresses or forms can be used to identify or track you. Watch things you share with these companies. Also, when you create a password on a website or app, you will be asked to answer some security questions in case you ever forget your password and need to reset it.
If you answer the security question correctly, you will be given access to your account again. Now you see that you don't have to enter any real answers there as you just need to remember the answer, this doesn't mean it has to be correct? .
Not entering the correct answer can also save your account from being easily hacked. Let's say the security question is "Your mother's maiden name" and you entered the correct/accurate answer.
The only task the hacker has to do is to find your mother's maiden name and answer the security question for you, and he/she accesses your account. If the company asked you where you were born, you can tell them that you are from outer space or the planet Mars ? and the answer will work. 2.
Create multiple emails for multiple purposes. This is so close to our most important point, which is to reduce the information you share and give out to the public. Creating multiple emails for different purposes will help you increase your online anonymity. If you were previously using the same email for all your online activities, stop doing that now. You need to create a different email for shopping (this will even help prevent spam emails from your main email account), create a separate email for your social media accounts.
Have your main email address for messages to friends and family be different from the email address you used to set up your banking and financial accounts, and also create separate emails for business activities.
This way, it becomes really difficult to find out things about you easily, and if someone has access to your online shopping email, it won't lead to anything related to your social media account, your finances or your personal life. But looks at, Google is not even the perfect email for privacy. Choose ProtonMail when looking at the you , if you want a privacy-focused email. 3. use a strong password Using a strong password has often been emphasized because passwords don't disappear quickly like that.
So you need to accept it and make sure that you use a strong password to avoid making yourself a hacker's playground. So start by creating a long password, long passwords are considered strong passwords. I would suggest using something like characters or more for each password, and I know this is a lot of work for most people.
But computers have gotten much faster today and that means shorter passwords are much easier to crack. The best way to protect against this is to create long and complex passwords. The problem with long and complex passwords is that most of us humans really have trouble remembering them ?
A long sequence of random letters, numbers and symbols are best practices for passwords. We solve that by essentially coming up with something that we can remember, and that would be something like a phrase that you remember really well or that you know so well, or some kind of phrase.
So now we have a strong password, but we need to be able to store it somewhere. Most of us use a note on our phone or add new contacts for each password, which is not very secure.
But I know most of you will continue to do this, so here's a way to make it secure and make it a little more secure. If you use the system to create a password by something easy to remember that is outside of your life, long sentences or text that you love in your own words.
So you can save the password as is before you actually change these things that way, even if someone finds your list of passwords they probably won't get into your accounts.
The better way to do all of this and solve all of your stress and save time is to use a password manager, because a password manager not only takes care of creating a lot more random passwords, but also takes care of remembering those passwords for you as well or storing them for most people.
I would recommend using something like Dashlane, and I can also say that Dashlane is not able to go wrong. But it's what most people are actually looking for, and there are others like LastPass and many other things, but I haven't used any of them, so I can't really recommend them. If you want something more secure, you can find an open source password manager like KeePass.
KeePass is an open source password manager.
The advantage of open source can be that anyone can see how KeePass was created. Hopefully, this means that potential bugs will be fixed, compared to something like Dashlane, where we can't see how it was built, so there might be some sort of vulnerability in their system that hasn't been identified yet.
The best way to remove your doubts is to create your own password manager and save it on a USB stick. This way, it is very unlikely that someone else will find your passwords, and even if they do find that USB stick.
They still need to get into your password manager, which I hope you've made really difficult. However, the downside of using a USB flash drive password manager is that you will have to insert it at any time and there will be other associated problems. You might end up trading your convenience for security and anonymity, and usually the more secure and anonymous something is, the more effort it takes to use it.
That's all you need to know to create and store truly secure passwords. 4. use browsers or extensions that allow you to block tracking scripts and ads Ever heard of a brave browser? Tor browser and many more, yes, these are the browsers that a privacy-focused person should use. For those who deeply love Chrome, yes, I understand how you feel about leaving Chrome to another browser, but if you're really concerned about your privacy, you won't look back.
But what if you're looking for something that offers the same functionality as Chrome but still respects your privacy? It's Brave Browser. Even if you're panicking about your saved Chrome passwords and how to sync your data between your laptop and your system, Brave takes care of all that for you. So why are you delaying the switch? Brave also has built-in ads and tracking script blockers called Shields , not only that Brave alone speeds up the internet surfing rate.
It also has a way to reward users for using it, called a BAT token (cryptocurrency). However, if you enable the option, it is not mandatory. Tor browser, on the other hand, is suitable for people who visit the dark web and also want a privacy-focused browser that is not as flexible as it is brave.
But yes, it is also a good privacy browser, that will be all at anonymity level 1. Let's move on to anonymity level 2. This part is hard to follow and gives you the anonymity that most of you are actually looking for. First, try using the tor web browser to understand why tor is better than Chrome for surfing the web anonymously. But first, we need to understand the things that can be used to identify you on the web.
This may look hard, but I'm going to break it down. There are many things that can be used on the web to identify who you are or where you are, and the most important here is your IP address. This is very specifically named because your IP address is a unique address that is associated with your device on the web. The web actually works very much like a post office. For example, let's say you might be trying to place an order on a platform.
The platform then needs to send the orders to you, the platform needs to know where to send them. So you need a unique mailing address so that the video gets to the right place. So if you don't want the post office to know your address, you can give them the address of someone else you know or the address of a PO box you have access to.
That is, you are basically hiding your address, which is what you want to do. If you want to surf the Internet anonymously, you want to hide your IP address. You may have heard of VPN? VPN does exactly what I just explained, so the VPNs are basically another address that you can send emails to. They then forward those emails to your home address through their own service, which means they know your home address. So using a VPN will hide you somewhat from the place you want to connect to, but yo
u won't disappear. To disappear, you need to actually make your IP address disappear or change it. This is where the Tor web browser comes in. The Tor browser helps you randomize your IP address so that it looks like you are someone else with a different IP address, making you virtually invisible, not completely, but extremely close.
Now I will explain how to become completely invisible.
Now you need to use Tor's end-to-end encryption. This way you can encrypt every request you send. Also, your data will be encrypted multiple times, so you can think of this as onion layers every time your information is encrypted.
Another layer is added to the onion, which is why this method is called onion routing and also makes it virtually undetectable, so most of us who want to browse the Internet anonymously do what we need to. Step 2 of leveling up our Level 2 anonymity.
We can improve it by using an encrypted messaging app to chat securely.
The Signal chat app is the most commonly used and is also considered the most anonymous. The more encrypted something is, the more anonymous it becomes.
So look for apps that allow end-to-end encryption for messages. For email and phone calls, use ProtonMail for email, and you can also use Mailvelope, which you can use in combination with your regular email providers to encrypt your email.
So now you would use those two combinations alongside the Tor web browser, you have achieved anonymity level 1 and anonymity level 2,
you are hard to hack, you are hard to track, and you can become completely invisible.
I will soon update this guide with anonymity level 3, where you become a complete ghost to institutions and agencies that track individuals. Stay invisible!
