BIN represents the initial six digits of any card number. This prefix provides insight into the issuing bank, card category, and tier prior to processing a single transaction. BINs can be likened to a card's genetic code, as they contain data regarding the card's origin and anticipated behaviour.

Familiarising oneself with BINs is crucial, as it enables one to ascertain a card's attributes and probability of success before allocating resources towards its utilisation.

For instance, in the card number 4147202565157893, the BIN would be 414720.
